Skin ‘lift’ and ‘tightening’
can only be achieved using Monopolar Radiofrequency
and HIFU devices.
Skin Tightening Treatments
Monopolar radiofrequency devices and High Intensity Focal Ultrasounds (HIFU) are considered the gold standard technologies when it comes to skin tightening for all skin tones. Our facility offers Intragen Device, which is a Korean based, US FDA approved monopolar radiofrequency device. We have also introduced the Ultraformer III, the best-in-the-business, Australian made, US FDA approved 3D HIFU device.
It is best to start undergoing skin tightening treatments by your mid or late 30s, when you notice the earliest sign of skin sagging – typically around the upper eyelids, the mouth and the jaw line. Illness and rapid weight loss can lead to early skin sagging. Creams and chemical peels can brighten the surface of your skin and act as preventative skin care. Lasers can eliminate open pores and acne scars and smoothen out fine lines and wrinkles. Botox injections can soften deep wrinkles. Dermal fillers can fill out deep wrinkles and correct volume loss. Threads are semi-invasive, can be painful, can migrate and can pull and lift the skin without actually tightening it. However, skin ‘lift’ and ‘tightening’ can only be achieved using HIFU or Monopolar Radiofrequency devices.
The Intragen Device is ideal for face and neck skin tightening. It is safe to use on the skin around the eyes and mouth as well. The Ultraformer III device has the added advantage of providing skin tightening, lifting and contouring benefits for the body as well. HIFU devices are generally considered superior to Radiofrequency devices. And Monopolar devices are considered superior to Bipolar devices for the same indications. HIFU devices work very well to tone down localized smaller fatty deposits like a bulky face or a double chin.
Both technologies work by causing bulk heating of the collagen tissue of the skin, without burning the surface of the skin. This bulk heating leads to shrinkage, remodelling and tightening of the collagen tissue, leading to the ‘lifting’ effect. Both treatments are very safe, painless, and have zero downtime.
HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) has the added benefit of targeting the subcutaneous tissue and SMAS tissue of the face to create microthermal lesions using Ultrasound. At these focal points, your existing collagen will be heated to 65 deg C – This leads to collage denaturation, contraction and remodelling – while bulk heating of the skin will trigger fresh collagen production.
Our centre also offers the Alma Clear Lift 4D technology (which uses fractionated Q switched Nd:YAG laser) and the Alma Pico Clear PicoLift technology (which uses fractional Picosecond laser) to produce skin tightening and lifting. When the primary concern is fine lines and wrinkles with pigmentation, open pores and poor skin texture – the aforementioned devices are the treatment of choice, and work better than skin tightening devices. As an added benefit, you will also notice subtle skin tightening benefits with these devices. These are Israeli devices which has been approved by the US FDA for safety and efficacy. This is perfect for middle aged men and women who have milder sagging of tissue, age spots, uneven skin tone and early signs of wrinkling. The treatment is safe, pain free and has zero downtime. Maximum results are achieved in 3-5 treatment sessions. Biannual maintenance sessions are recommended in order to maintain the results.
If you’re young (mid thirties) and have minimal sagging, you only need to get the treatments done once in 6 months or once a year. For those who began late (late forties to sixties) and already have a moderate amount of sagging, you will need quarterly treatments in the first year, followed by annual maintenance sessions to sustain the results. For elderly patients with severe laxity of skin, we recommend consultation with a plastic surgeon regarding face lift surgery. Ageing is a dynamic process which cannot be halted. Therefore all anti-ageing treatments will require commitment and maintenance.
